Message from Department Chair

The School of Physical and Mathematics was founded in 1953 and is one of the 26 schools which conforms the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon.

At, present our school offers six Bachelor’s Degree programs: Mathematics, Physics, Computer Sciences , Actuarial Studies Multimedia, Digital Animation and IT Security. The first three programs are classifies at level 1 of their quality by the Inter-institutional Committees for the Evaluation of Higher Education” (CIEES, for its Spanish acronym), the Actuarial Studies  program is being evaluated, and the rest of them will start the same process in a few months.  

The Bachelor of Computer Science is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Information Technology (CONAIC, for its Spanish acronym), which is an organization endorsed by COPAES National Council. It has also earned international accreditation from Akredita Agency.

The bachelor degree in Physics and the Bachelor of Mathematics will soon begin the process to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation in Physics programs (CAPEF), and the Council on Accreditation in Mathematical Programs (CAPEM), respectively, both supported by COPAES.

According to the National Actuarial College (Colegio Nacional de Actuarios, A.C.) our bachelor of Actuarial Studies complies with the norms established by International Actuarial Association (IAA) and therefore with its polices and standards, so graduates be recognized by the National Actuarial College based on the terms established in section 2 of the article 7, of its statutes.   

Our graduate programs include: Master of Industrial Physics Engineering, Master of Science in Information Security Engineering, PhD in Industrial Physics Engineering, Master of Science in Mathematics, Master of Industrial Physics Engineering and a PhD in Mathematics.

The School’s mission is to train professionals in pure and applied Physical, Mathematical and Computer Sciences, with humanistic conscience, who are creative and innovators and able to generate, spread and apply their knowledge in order to face the demands of scientific, technological, economic and social development in the community and in the country within the international context.

The School’s vision is aligned with the vision 2020 of UANL: “The School of Physics and Mathematics of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon will be recognized in 2020 as a socially responsible and world-class institution due to the integral training of professionals through quality educational programs in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Actuarial, Multimedia, Computer animation and Information Security, to the high level of training and recognition of its academic staff, its management’s quality, infrastructure and equipment, and for the strong links it has with the public, social and productive sectors, that help respond to the demands of scientific, technological, economic and social development in the community and in the country, in an international context”.

Recently, the School released its electronic journal 'Celerinet', which is available on the App Store.

The administrative processes are certificated by the ISO 9001:2008 (International Organization for Standardization)

Also the school offers modern and accessible facilities and laboratories to give a proper academic support to our students.

Our educational programs work under a competency-based academic model. The main goal sought through the competency-based assessment is to evaluate the student’s performance, the knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes and values involved in an activity. This method produces evidences that prove the learning outcomes and performance criteria of the students.

 The School is incorporating actions aimed at improving the academic quality, using applied technology in education and implementing the best practices of the Academic Model based on competencies. We are planning to foster academic innovation in our School with the purpose of reinforcing the integral training of the students as well as the academic staff through the update of their teaching methods and technological knowledge.
