Rafael Serna Treviño was born on May 1st, 1930. He completed his professional studies at the Universidad de Nuevo Leon, obtaining the bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and bachelor of Mathematics, the latter was given in honorable mention considering that it was the first title issued by our School. Later, in 1969 he studied a Master’s degree in Economic Statistics in Centro Interamericano de Enseñanza Estadistica, Economica y Social (CIEENES) Santiago, Chile. He also carried out specialization studies in Mathematics during the summer of 1955, 1956, 1958 and 1963 in the School of Sciences of UNAM.
His long teaching career started in 1950 in the School of Civil Engineering, but he also taught at High School No. 1, the Normal Superior del Estado, School of Economics, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and School of Physics and Mathematics, from UANL.
Serna Treviño worked as teacher of the following subjects: Algebra, Differential and Integral Calculus, Geometry and Trigonometry, Mathematical Analysis, Differential Geometry, Vector Calculus, Complex Analysis, Topology, Statistics, Hydraulics, Kinematics and Analytical Mechanics.
Rafael Serna Treviño held different administrative positions during his long professional career such as: Dean of School of Physics and Mathematics (1958-1967) and in 1971, 1972, 1978; Coordinator of High School No. 1, UANL (1954-1959); Head of the Statistic’s Department of UANL (1961-1964); Principal of some High Schools in Universidad Regiomontana.
Also Serna Treviño, was precursor and founder of Sindicato de Trabajadores of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon and of the School of Physics and Mathematics. He was also a member of the University Senate for a period that lasted 25 years (1955-1980).
He is also, co-author of the book Geometría Analítica (Analytic geometry) used in UANL high schools from 1954 to 1967 and he is an Emeritus Professor of the University.
