Juan Ernesto Colunga Cavazos

Juan Ernesto Colunga Cavazos was born in Monterrey, Mexico on December 27, 1943. He studied the elementary education in the Joel Rocha School in 1950 to 1956; he attended Middle School in the period of 1956 to 1959. His high school studies were conducted at High School No. 3 of UANL from 1959 to 1962. He earned the BS in Mathematics in the UANL School of Physics and Mathematics in 1966 and then he obtained a Master of Mathematics in 1968 at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of IPN, in Mexico City. Also he got the Master in Operations Research in 1972 at the University of Stanford, in California. He made doctoral studies in Optimizing from 1972 to1973 at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.

From 1974 to 1976, Colunga developed an information system "Monitoring of Bacterial Flora" for the Laboratory of University Hospital. That work was presented at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Hospital. In 1977 he finished a work "Model for predicting noise from traffic" in Ecological Research Center of UANL, and which appeared at the 9th International Congress on Acoustics in Madrid, Spain.

He has taught since 1964 at the School of Physics and Mathematics, the Escuela Normal Superior, the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education). In addition, he was teacher in the Master grades of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Economics, Chemical Sciences and the Graduate School of the Normal Superior of the State. He was Secretary of the School of Physics and Mathematics of the UANL from 1964-1966 and Director of this School from 1979 to 1980. He was consultant for different companies from 1974 to 199; he was vice-president of the Mexican Association of Computer Professionals for the period 1985 to 1987 and the Mexican Computing Society in Education from 1987 to 1991 and he served as President of the Society from 1991 to 1993.
